Update 6/21/24
This week the demolition of the Woman’s Locker Room was completed and framing for the new showers was started as well as working on the drywall. Some old lockers will remain until Shut Down happens in August, so that there will be some storage available when the woman’s room reopens and Men’s demolition starts.
Thank you for your patience in this process.

Update 6/10/24
Dear Members:
We have some exciting news! We will be renovating the women’s and men’s locker rooms this summer! To do so, we will need your patience as rooms will be closed temporarily and reopen for a short period only to temporarily close again. We will use the annual shutdown period as the final phase when we replace the floor! Our goal is to minimize the down time for each room.
Many of you have heard stories regarding supply chain delays. We know the approximate lead time on lockers and toilet partitions, but don’t know exactly when they will arrive. By completing this in phases, we will ensure that all the material is on site when we demolish that portion of the locker room.
Phase 1
Demolish the showers and walls surrounding the showers. Replace all drywall in shower areas with moisture resistant product and reinstall new showers.
Phase 2
In the women’s locker room, reconfigure entrance to the pool, install changing rooms, install new lockers and rebuild the walls as necessary.
In the men’s locker room, install new lockers and rebuild the walls as necessary.
In both replace existing counters with solid countertops. Replace all toilet partitions. Upgrade lighting. Clean and inspect ventilation systems. Inspect all sprinkler heads.
Phase 3
During shutdown, install a new epoxy floor throughout both locker rooms.
As we begin construction, a locker room will be completely shut off to members. Our plan is to move the women into the men’s room and the men into the family locker room while the women’s room is under construction. And again, the men will need to move into the family locker room while the men’s room is under construction.
YWCA was fortunate to obtain $280,000 in ARPA funding to complete this renovation project. ARPA funds were also used to replace the boilers and pool filters. We anticipate that this project will cost at least $320,000. If you would like to help us fund this project, you can send a check to the YWCA Greater Newburyport, or use the following Link.
Your support of our work and mission is greatly appreciated. We look forward to serving you better in the future.
Sincerely,
John Feehan
