The Tuesday Evening Circle

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, when the YWCA was in its infancy, a group of special residents formed a circle of friends committed to the YWCA’s mission. They were ladies of means who hailed from “homes of luxury” according to YWCA archives, and they made certain the helping hand they offered would endure by creating a fund to help sick girls unable to work, and to help girls and women who were ‘deprived of the necessities of life’ or out of a job. They were known as the “Tuesday Evening Circle”, and it was their generosity and long term planning that ensured when the Great Depression hit, and the city’s economy came crashing down, that the YWCA had the capital to carry the organization through the darkest period in America’s history.

This is their legacy – joining the circle that bears their name can be yours…
