swim lessons The seacoast’s proximity to the ocean, rivers and lakes (not to mention back yard swimming pools), makes swimming an important safety skill for everyone to master. Swim lessons help individuals develop the skills necessary to enjoy a lifetime of swimming. Many swimmers continue beyond lessons to ripples (our pre-swim team), swim team, masters or lap swimming on their own. Swim lessons at the YWCA Greater Newburyport are based on the American Red Cross standards and instructors follow these standards. For a complete description of our lessons please see our swim lesson program guide. Most lessons last eight weeks and swimmers come once a week for instruction in our new pool. During the summer, eight lessons are also available in two week segments. See our swim lesson program guide for more detail. Private and semi-private lessons provide more flexibility and greater individual attention (they are also available for adults!). Contact Lisa Arakelian for more information. Membership is not required for swim lessons, however, members do receive a discount. Visit our membership page for more detail on the benefits of becoming a member. Members who have an optimal wellness plan receive an additional discount! Whether you choose to become a member or not, you will need to complete an application the first time you start swim lessons. We recommend you fill in the basic information at home. |
For a complete description of our lessons please see our swim lesson program guide. Click here to see the current schedule. FUN FACTS: Swimming burns 3 calories a mile per pound of bodyweight! If you swim a mile in a half an hour and if you weigh 150 pounds, that means you would burn 900 calories an hour! 72 lengths of our pool = 1 mile!
