American Red Cross LIFEGUARD TRAINING CERTIFICATION COURSE

The YWCA Greater Newburyport is excited to announce that we will be offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification Course in our new pool.  Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive:

• Lifeguard Training  and First Aid certification, valid for 3 years
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification, valid for 1 year

The course will be held on the following dates:

Saturday May 22, 2010 - 8:00am - 5:00pm
Sunday May 23, 2010 - 8:00am - 5:00pm
Saturday June 5, 2010 - 8:00am - 5:00pm
Sunday June 6, 2010 - 8:00am - 5:00pm

Fee: Member $300 | Non-Member $350
Fee includes: a $100 non refundable materials and registration fee.

Prerequisite testing will be completed during the first class of the session. In order to participate in the course, candidate must: be at least 15 yrs old on or before the last date of the course and must:

• Complete a 300-yard swim: 100 yard front crawl, 100 yard breaststroke,
  100 yard front crawl or breast stroke.
• Complete a 20 yard swim, surface dive, retrieve a 10 lb brick at the surface of the water or above it in a time limit of 1 minute and 40 seconds.

*Goggles may be worn during the 300 yard swim only and not during the brick swim

If participant does not pass the prerequisite test, a refund will be issued less the $100 materials fee, or the participant may take the class again within 6 months. If participant does not pass the course, she/he may take the class again within 6 months. No refunds will be given for course failure.

Materials Provided:

• 1 Lifeguard Training Book
• 1 Resuscitation Mask
• 1 pair latex-free gloves

Students are required to bring their own bathing suit, towel, writing utensils and a comfortable change of clothes. We suggest the student bring a snack.
