Welcome to the Greater Newburyport YWCA.

YWCA Children’s Center

The YWCA Children’s Center is located at the YWCA Greater Newburyport’s new Pond Street branch in Newburyport. This new center offers full and part day care for infants, toddler and preschoolers and is an exciting addition to our current after school child care programs.  All of our programs give parents the freedom to pursue their professional goals while their children participate in safe, affordable, quality programs.  Children have the opportunity to explore, discover and expand their cognitive and social skills in a caring, supportive environment.

The YWCA Children’s Center is a place for children to discover, explore and create. Whether smiling at a new friend, cooking in the dramatic play area or painting at the easel, the YWCA Children’s Center will promote hands on learning through play.  The curriculum offered at the YWCA Children’s Center is open-ended and child-driven.  We use an educational tool, Teaching Strategies Gold, as a guide for our curriculum and assessment enabling educators to set individual developmental goals for each child.

We are very excited about our new outdoor environment.  The outdoor learning environment will include gardens, open spaces for games and movement, table areas for art, science and eating, sensory play areas and “roads” for trikes and scooters.  Children will spend a substantial part of each day in this natural play area.  This area is emerging thanks to the assistance of volunteers and staff.

Our indoor classroom areas are created for individual and small group activities including multiple activity choices.  Infants and toddlers have their own developmentally appropriate and engaging space.  Preschoolers have opportunities to discover multiple areas of the center including an indoor nature center.

Children's Center FAQ's

Infants and toddlers

The YWCA infant/toddler program provides a safe nurturing environment in which children are supported as they grow and develop.  Our primary caregivers take cues from babies and toddlers as they move through the day.  Eating, napping and playing happen as the individual need arises. Children interact in small groups and can discover independently all under the guidance of our loving, skilled educators.  Our infant and toddler’s days include such activities as story time, sensory exploration, science discovery, outdoor investigation, creative arts and much more.  Most importantly, all our infants and toddlers have fun in a safe, positive environment.

The YWCA Preschool program provides a safe, interactive environment in which children grow as learners through discovery, exploration and creativity.  The educators guide the children in developing appropriate social skills to inspire positive relationships.  In our multi-age classrooms, children can be a mentor to a young child and a learner with an older child. Preschoolers have the opportunity to move throughout the classrooms in small groupings and independently.  Our Educators know that each child has a unique learning style. For that reason, we individualize our curriculum to meet each child’s needs and goals.  Your preschooler’s curriculum includes literacy, age appropriate math and science concepts, social and emotional development and much more.  Your preschooler will be learning and thriving in an educationally rich environment.

Parents interested in the program can call Nicole Brennan, Center Director, at 978-225-6210.
