A letter from lisa dorval & david hall

Dear Friends,

Over the course of a career developing housing, we have seen first-hand how important it is for individuals to have a home of their own. And that’s why we are appealing to you to join us in supporting the YWCA Greater Newburyport as it actively works to triple its inventory of affordable housing units to relieve the burden of those struggling to provide this most basic need.

As we’ve begun working with the YWCA to develop a new 10-unit residence at our Hillside Center for Sustainable Living, we have learned quite a bit about this organization’s 130-year history in our community. And it’s impressed on us the kind of holistic approach the YWCA takes in addressing so many needs in our community.

Because of their work:

  • children from the Head Start program, full of joy and promise, are receiving free swim lessons and a lifetime of confidence in and around the water
  • 200 senior women and men are receiving free wellness plans to participate in classes and fitness programs that keep their bodies and minds strong
  • breast and ovarian cancer survivors are reclaiming strength and confidence in their bodies through the YWCA's free Encore program.
  • the emotional and social skills of over 100 young people are strengthened in their afterschool program.
  • women have a safe and affordable place to call home.

When our neighbors are at their lowest point, facing overwhelming odds, they’ve turned to the YWCA and this organization was there for them with programs made possible by the kindness of strangers. Well, not strangers…you, and other committed supporters of the YWCA.

Together, we can make a world of difference for our neighbors. Please join us in giving generously this year to the YWCA.

Sincerely,

Lisa Dorval David Hall

PS –As you plan your charitable giving this year, we hope you’ll consider giving generously to the YWCA Greater Newburyport.

Please join us and 100% of the YWCA Board and give generously.

The YWCA Greater Newburyport has been a partner in the community for 130 years. Here’s how the YW is impacting the lives of some of your neighbors today:

“Learn to Swim’ is a great program.
My grandson went from having a fear of putting his face into the water to complete immersion in a week’s time. Liz at the YWCA Greater Newburyport is a wonderful instructor.”
– Dianne B.

“After trying several childcare settings, I came to the YWCA. Not only do my two- and four-year-olds like it, they ask to go. I love that there is no TV and they are encouraged to have “free-play” as well as read, do puzzles and complete crafts. The staff are so kind and helpful. I have peace of mind when working out at the YWCA knowing that my children are exploring, learning and being nurtured only a few rooms away.
– Mary-Rita Visconti

“I am very grateful for the special grant for my YWCA wellness plan membership – it is the best birthday present I ever had. It has been wonderful to exercise without pain in the warm water pool! The grants are so important to us senior citizens who still try to stay healthy and in shape.”
– Beverly Jones, YWCA grant beneficiary, gift of the Newburyport Society for the Relief of Aged Women
